Tired of generic Valentine’s Day gifts of flowers, chocolates, and candy? Does your valentine have a heart for green living? Or are they an unintentional plant killer (it’s alright, I am too… we weren’t all blessed with green thumbs!). Whatever your Valentine’s Day dilemma is, I’ve got a unique solution for you!
Enter in- the aloe vera plant! Now I would love to claim this as my own original idea, but this one actually came from my husband. You see, I actually would be perfectly happy with a bouquet of red roses, but he always asks, “what is the point of that?! They are just going to die in a couple days!”
He’s bought potted flowers for me instead, but alas, I absolutely cannot keep them alive to save my life. I literally never remember to water them.
So last year, he bought me a cactus. But not just any cactus- an aloe vera plant. Which turns out to be the coolest gift ever, in my humble opinion!
First of all, they are incredibly easy to care for- even if you don’t have any green thumbs like me. You only have to water it once every 2-3 weeks! And if you still forget? NBD. They are actually quite resilient #winning.
Next, aloe vera plants also have many cool benefits. Now a quick google search will bring up all kinds of benefits from ingesting the plant- and I’m not about to try that. If you do, it is at your own risk- I personally wouldn’t recommend it because I do not know enough about the safety of ingestion.
But their topical benefits are really awesome! You can break a piece off and rub it on a cut or scrape to aid with healing.
It confers many antiseptic properties and can also help heal sunburns. (Did you know that store bought aloe gels contain very little if any actual aloe and a whole lot of toxic chemicals?! But I digress…)
Aloe vera has also been said to be helpful as a topical rub for joint and muscle pain. And it can even be used as a hair conditioner!
Oh, and did I mention it can regenerate itself?! That in and of itself makes it the coolest plant I’ve ever heard of, period!
So this Valentine’s Day, give your loved one the unique gift of an aloe vera plant- the gift that keeps giving! You can pick one up at your local Home Depot or Lowe’s, or my favorite shopping location- Amazon! (Affiliate link provided for your convenience- you can see my full disclosure policy here.)
You can also download this super cute “Aloe you very much” tag to put on your gift. Boom. Your Valentine’s Day prep is DONE!
And guess what? If you’re looking for cute ready-made valentines to pass out, these aloe plant signs can be used for that as well! Just cut them out, mount to some glitter paper, and you’ve got a valentine!
